I have drawn and painted through childhood and school, and took a BA in Fine Art at Wimbledon in 1984, and an MA in Fine Art at Newcastle in 1994. My subject matter has been consistent; museum displays, wildlife and bird imagery, especially from field guides and WW2 vehicles and uniforms. All very eclectic as I have always been interested in using disparate sources, and often combine these within one painting. To depict the character of these different sources I tend to paint realistically. I am less interested in experimenting with the qualities of the medium, and have often avoided the formal aspects of painting. Recently I have found these two elements can improve expression and the appearance of my work, for example using thin glazing layers of paint, to create depth, and painting on a bright red ground.

I have been influenced by British Pop Artists especially Blake and Caulfield, and the British Neo-Romantics such as Nash, Sutherland and Ravillious.

I have also worked as a mosaic and community artist for local authorities and Tyne and Wear Museums, and designed and delivered many projects for schools. I have had commissions from the NHS and private individuals, and sell my prints from local galleries.
